Features - Duplicate File and Message Elimination
If you browse Usenet newsgroups frequently you will discover that some
files are reposted on a regular basis. In some cases, these files are
"spam" messages that carry commercial advertisements. In other cases,
they are simply being reposted by people who think they are interesting
and want to share them. However, in either case it is a nuisance
to receive multiple copies of a file that you have already seen and saved
or discarded.
News Rover saves you time by maintaining a database of files that you
have already received. If a file with the same name and size is received
again, it is discarded automatically. If you intentionally want to receive
another copy of a file you have gotten, you can remove the entry for that
file from the database so that News Rover will not consider it to be a
duplicate. You can also disable this feature if you prefer to receive
duplicate files.
In addition to eliminating duplicate files, News Rover also eliminates
duplicate copies of the same message. News Rover maintains a database
with the ID strings of all messages that you have received. If a message
is received whose ID string is already recognized, the duplicate copy of
the message is discarded. This prevents you from seeing multiple copies of
the same message that have been cross-posted to many newsgroups.
With News Rover you have complete control!
